Young people to raise £1 million

Youth charity Futureversity has launched a campaign to raise £1 million in just three months – and is recruiting the very people who benefit from its work to make it happen.

Up to 300 young volunteers are being taken on to participate in Futureversity’s We Were All Young Once, a fundraising campaign which will secure funds for the charity’s life-changing programmes. Young people will work in groups with a mentor to raise the £1 million and will gain valuable fundraising experience along the way.

Futureversity provides free courses and also volunteer and employability programmes for 11-25 year olds and has worked with almost 100,000 young people since it began as a crime prevention initiative in 1995; Futureversity is now inundated with five times more applications each year than it can meet and it’s not hard to see why.

This year alone 97% of Futureversity students said they’d learnt something new, 90% of Futureversity students said they’d made friends with young people from different backgrounds to themselves, 77% of Futureversity students said they felt they could achieve more in life than they thought they could before, 78% of Futureversity students said they were more encouraged to learn through education or to get a job and 96% of Futureversity students said they’d recommend Futureversity to other young people.

Patron Dizzee Rascal, did a Futureversity music technology course as a teenager and has credited Futureversity as being his ‘X Factor’.

As Futureversity’s We Were All Young Once campaign organiser, Matt Dronfield says: “We want to make sure we will be able to keep providing our programmes completely free of charge for young people,  we also want to give excellent opportunities to young volunteers who get involved and give them valuable experience for their CV’s, future education and employment.”
