Youth Assessors
The Youth Assessor Programme is an exciting new project for 16-19 year olds that keeps young people at the heart everything Futureversity does. By training young people in the skills needed to go out and assess Futureversity Programmes, Youth Assessors become our eyes and ears across London. They work to ensure that Futureversity continues to get better and better every year by checking that we are delivering the highest quality service to young people everywhere.
30 trained Youth Assessors visited 26 Futureversity Programmes all over London during the summer in 2010. They developed new skills, grew in confidence, got work experience, picked up a certificate and made lasting friendships along the way. And they got paid!
'Being a Youth Assessor is a worthwhile job because it improved my confidence and I have improved my leadership skills and I feel that I have made a difference to young people.' 2010 Youth Assessor
Becoming a Paid Youth Assessor
The first step to becoming a paid Youth Assessor is to take part in one of our intensive Communication Skills courses. The courses are fun, free and practical, giving you lots of essential skills for the real world, plus a Level 2 OCN accreditation in Speaking and Listening.
Everyone who completes the Communication Skills course and wants to continue will be able to apply for the full Youth Assessor Programme, which means more fun training designed to develop your organisation, team work, conflict resolution and quality assurance skills. Not only are these skills essential for the Youth Assessor job, they are also transferrable to lots of other jobs you might do in the future, so it’s a great thing to get under your belt. When training is over, we will help you to apply for a job as a Futureversity Youth Assessor, which means part-time, paid employment over the summer holidays if you are successful.
Don’t worry though, there will be more Communication Skills courses happening in Autumn, preparing potential Youth Assessors for summer 2012! If you're interested in getting involved and want to be the first to find out when the next course is announced, you can drop us a line at youthassessors [@] futureversity.org and we'll contact you as soon as there's more news.
