Futureversity Tower Hamlets (previously Tower Hamlets Summer University) was established in 1995, initially as a crime prevention initiative. Our mission is to work with young people through innovative educational opportunities in the summer holidays and year round, helping them make informed, positive decisions that enhance their lives and the lives of those around them.
Our aims are to:
- Promote independent learning
- Raise achievement
- Promote racial tolerance and good community relations
- Increase access to educational opportunities through successful partnerships
- Involve young people in the organisation’s development
We offer free arts, sports and business related courses to young people aged 11-25 each year through our programmes in the summer and year round. Our programmes are open to all young people, irrespective of their background and where they live. All courses have recorded outcomes, many are accredited and all students received certificates to recognise their achievements.
Young people (Peer Motivators) help us manage the programmes by volunteering to act as mentors and team leaders, marketing the programmes and offering assistance to tutors and students by being present on-site. Our year-round Futureversity Advisory Board (FAB) inform the programmes we run by advising on which courses to run, how to market them and so on.
